Vincent Vassall

Vincent Vassall's life in photography began the way many lasting passions do — with curiosity and a camera that wasn't quite his. In middle school, he learned to shoot and develop film on a Nikon, borrowing — sometimes sneaking — his father's camera from a drawer whenever he could. When he didn't have it, he carried disposable Kodaks everywhere, capturing family gatherings, everyday moments, and the world as he saw it. Even then, he wasn't just taking pictures. He was learning to see. That camera never left him. Through his years in the Army, photography remained a constant — evolving from disposables to a compact Canon SureShot he could carry anywhere, consistently documenting life as it unfolded. Over time, his focus shifted. Landscapes and cityscapes gave way to something deeper: people. Drawn to human connection and the stories behind each face, he moved into street photography, where observation, patience, and intention became everything. His travels with X-Peditions to Cuba and Hanoi marked a turning point. Cuba challenged him to slow down, engage, and move beyond simply capturing an image — toward photographs that hold presence and meaning. Images that say, you were here. Hanoi brought a different kind of awareness. The soft blue hour light over Hoàn Kiếm Lake, the early movement through Long Biên Market, the aroma of phở, the richness of egg coffee — the city invited him to absorb, not just photograph. Today, Vincent focuses on portraits and weddings, creating work centered around "the dash" — images that feel real, lived, and lasting. When he's not behind the camera, he's traveling on solo photo trips, playing what he'll admit is subpar golf, and making memories with his family — moments that continue to shape how he sees the world.
